Seas The Day Team

Seas the Day… The journey so far

After they entered their first week at sea, the Seas the Day team had already covered over 295 nautical miles. As seen on their social media, the first few days brought intense heat and minimal wind, a punishing combination for any rower!

But it was when a rudder incident threatened to stop the team from continuing that we truly saw the ambition and determination behind our dedicated rowers.

And they’re off (again)

Seas the Day team relaunch their epic Pacific row with grit, heart, and a new rudder…

After an unexpected early setback, Jess and Mims are officially back on the water, relaunching their record-setting bid to row 8,000 miles nonstop and unsupported across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Australia.

Only a few hundred miles into their first attempt, a rudder failure forced the pair to deploy their para anchor and return to shore — a frustrating turn for two women who had spent a lot of time training for this moment. But in true Seas the Day spirit, and despite many thinking it to be impossible, they didn’t let it stop them.

With speed, determination and the help of an incredible on-the-ground team, they’ve now set off once more.

On the difficult decision to turn back, Jess Rowe shared, “It is absolutely disappointing to have to turn around and do so, that said with so far to go and still so close to our start point it is the smart, though hard decision to make. Miriam and I, supported by our amazing land team, will get turned around and back out onto the water as soon as possible. We are grateful to all those who are supporting us and can’t wait to get back to the start line and make them all proud.”

Special thanks go to Alec and the brilliant team at Southgate Boat Yard, who worked tirelessly to get the boat ocean-ready again. Your support made this restart possible, and we are all deeply grateful for the quick turnaround.

Now it’s time to cheer them on once again as they head into one of the most demanding ocean rows ever attempted. You can follow their progress on social media and stay tuned for fresh updates this month with photos and coverage from the restart.
