Seas the Day: An update from the waters
Since their unexpected restart in May, the Seas the Day team has been making fantastic progress. This has all been made possible thanks to the incredible support of so many, including Ben and the team at Southgates Boatyard, who manufactured replacement rudders in record time.
Jess and Miriam have now covered over 1,000 miles, more than twice the distance they reached before being forced to pause their original attempt.
It’s an impressive milestone, made even more amazing by the fact that it hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing.
Calm under pressure
The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Prolonged cloud cover has made it difficult to recharge power cells, forcing them to conserve energy wherever possible. With the auto-helm offline at times, they’ve hand-steered for long periods, shut down systems to preserve power, and relied on constant manual adjustments to stay on course.
Even their water maker has caused some trouble, with a burst pipe requiring repairs mid-ocean and careful rationing to maintain water supplies. Despite the growing list of struggles, their focus has never wavered. Every obstacle has been met with calm, resourceful problem-solving and steady teamwork.
Moments that make it all worthwhile
Between the tough stretches, there have been plenty of incredible moments. The Pacific has offered up its full spectrum — clear night skies, whales, sharks, flying fish and the occasional curious seabird landing on deck. It’s these moments that help Jess and Miriam boost morale and remind them why they set out on this brilliant challenge.
As they recently shared:
"We still have such a long way to go but today we’re celebrating! We know we can face the remaining miles and challenges with confidence that the tough times will pass and we’re in it together, having each other’s backs all the way!"
"It’s absolutely incredible out here. The last few nights we’ve had clear skies before midnight and we’ve never seen stars like it. The Atlantic just doesn’t compare. Matched with the phosphorescence in the water, it’s like a scene from Life of Pi or Moana."
A reflection of resilience
We’re so proud to support a team that demonstrates the same resilience, adaptability and calm approach we bring to our world of secure global logistics. Whether navigating remote oceans or complex supply chains, it’s always about finding solutions, adapting quickly, and staying steady under pressure.
Jess and Miriam’s progress so far is a powerful reflection of the mindset that sits at the core of what we believe in, the ability to keep moving forward no matter what lies ahead.
The journey continues
The team still has many miles ahead, but their shared determination is clear. We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way as they continue across the Pacific and write the next chapter in this remarkable journey.
Stay tuned for more updates from the ocean, and thank you for following along!
